Overview This position is responsible for supporting front-end ceramic processing and manufacturing. This includes keeping manufacturing processes functional and efficient, driving higher part quality, increasing throughput, and providing higher yields. The role focuses on all aspects of plate manufacturing (batching, calcination, tape casting, binder bake out, green plate fabrication, firing and finishing) and includes mentorship of other engineers in the Front End group. Location and Employment Location: Cazenovia, New York Workplace type: Onsite Employment type: Full Time Responsibilities Perform and lead tasks, projects, and all processes for plate ceramic plate fabrication in support of manufacturing (batching, casting, green plate fabrication, bake out, firing and finishing). Focus on driving yields improvements and process efficiency. Instill proper data collection and statistical process control. Guide improvements to production processes through expertise. Mentor and guide other process engineers in this group. Collaborate with Ceramics and Process Transfer Teams, and with Front End Operations Supervisor, toward process improvements. Engage with engineers in back-end processing (e.g., metallization) to ensure process improvements are vetted through final product. Provide and execute qualification plans for process improvements and for new equipment. Update operators and technicians on procedure changes, production and quality issues. Direct, train, and transfer skills/knowledge to operators, engineers and engineering technicians. Investigate new suppliers and technologies for improving production, quality, cost, and throughput. Evaluate impact of Preventive Maintenance on yield and quality and coordinate PM schedules; evaluate maintenance indicators for potential problems. Assist Purchasing, Maintenance, and Operations to determine proper purchase/supply of spare parts and equipment. Update procedures based on changes in manufacturing or engineering improvements and environmental issues (ISO 9001, ISO 14001). Execute FMEA, SPC, MSA processes. Conduct problem troubleshooting (e.g., fishbone analysis). Qualifications BS or MS degree in engineering with emphasis in materials science, ceramic, or process engineering. 5 years of successful ceramic process engineering experience with a high-performing passive components company (including direct experience with the ceramic processes noted above). Serve as a key subject matter expert in ceramic processing for the site. Strong data management skills, data interpretation, and SPC evaluations to guide improvements. Self-directed, highly professional and collaborative; direct engagement with process transfer group. Strong verbal and written communication skills; attention to detail and accuracy. Ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities in a fast-paced environment; strong problem-solving skills. Experience in total quality, Six Sigma, or similar environments preferred.
